When I first moved to Naples, I was in awe of how many multimillionaires (and billionaires) lived here. I had never been surrounded by so many accomplished people. It didn't take me long to figure out that I was given a wonderful opportunity and I needed to optimize my time with these successful people.

I kind of not-so-casually started asking them business questions and advice. I wanted to sponge up any advice I could. I was with a man who owns one of the largest construction companies in the country. I asked him what his favorite business book was. He said," That's easy. Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It's the business bible."

So, of course, I went to the bookstore (it was before the internet people!) and bought my first copy. It wasn't like anything I've ever read before. It was written in 1937 and some of the language was written differently than I was used to reading. But I knew instantly that this book was going to change my life!

Napoleon Hill spent 20 years of his life studying 500 of the country's most successful people and their secrets to success. People that are the founders of the greatest companies this country has ever had. People such as Henry Ford, Theodore Roosevelt, William Wrigley, Wilbur Wright, John D. Rockefeller, Thomas Edison, F.W. Woolworth and Alexander Graham Bell. How can you NOT learn principles of success from such great businessmen!?

One of the main weaknesses of mankind is the average person's familiarity with the word "impossible." He knows all of the rules that will not work. He knows all of the things that cannot be done. This book was written for those who seek the rules that have made others successful, and are willing to stake everything on those rules. - Excerpt from Think and Grow Rich

One of the things I think about every time I read a book is that the author spent years of his or her life researching and writing the book and I have the ability to read it in a matter of days. What an opportunity! (Which is the reason I've read over 1000 business and personal development books.) Napoleon Hill spent 20 years of his life researching for this one magical book and has compiled all of that knowledge into a few hundred pages.

Of all the CEO's and entrepreneurs that I've come across in my 20 years of business in Naples, there are two common denominators when I ask them about their success. One of them is to "Work your ass off." The other one is that they consider Think and Grow Rich to be one of the best books ever written.

One thing I know for sure is that success leaves clues. If you want to be successful, you need to do, think, read and act the way successful people do. (Success has a different meaning for every person, so find your version of success and people that are achieving it.)

Is it a coincidence that so many successful businesspeople attribute Think and Grow Rich to their success? I think not.

I've read it at least ten times and I get something different out of it every time. I've read it so many times that the pages are falling out. As I'm writing this, I just found an original cover of the book, so of course I had to buy another one. I'm such a dork that I even got little butterflies in my stomach when I saw it!

I think one of the things that really resonates with me is that it's simple. Success is simple, it's just easy. And I think over the years, we've made it more difficult because we have too many other distractions and are influenced by so many other things and people.

The power of the mind is a wide subject of the book. I personally find this of great interest because I believe the mind is what either creates our success or causes or failure. I believe it all starts with our mind, and learning to discipline and control our mind is one of the biggest key to success.

I believe you find this book valuable in many aspects of your life, not just business. Do yourself a favor and buy it now and let me know what you think!
